Legendary trinkets: nine of them, and the one most people start with
Aurora, Vision, Coalescence, Conflux, Transcendence and the rest. Where each one comes from, which game mode it locks you into, and which is realistic first.
Trinkets are the sensible place to start with legendary equipment, and almost nobody tells newcomers that. There are nine of them, they cost less time than a weapon, and the convenience they buy is the same.
The nine, and where each lives
| Trinket | Slot | Comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Aurora | accessory | Living World Season 3 |
| Coalescence | ring | Path of Fire raids |
| Vision | accessory | Living World Season 4 |
| Transcendence | amulet | PvP |
| Conflux | ring | World versus World |
| Prismatic Champion’s Regalia | amulet | Seasons 2, 3, 4 and the Icebrood Saga |
| Endless Summer | ring | Visions of Eternity |
| Stella Radians | accessory | Visions of Eternity |
| Strife Unending | accessory | World versus World |
Read that right-hand column as a list of doors. Each trinket is a game mode you are agreeing to spend time in, and that, rather than the materials, is what decides which one you should make.
Start with Aurora
Aurora comes from Season 3 and asks for open-world collections across those six maps. No raid, no PvP, no WvW, no rank requirement, no group.
If you own Heart of Thorns and have played Season 3, most of the map knowledge is already in your hands and the currencies are ones you have been collecting without meaning to.
Vision is the natural second, from Season 4, and it is where the skyscale route matters: Vision needs Rift Repair, which sits in the Season 4 mastery track, which the short Secrets of the Obscure skyscale route does not unlock. If Vision is in your plans, take the long skyscale road.
Prismatic Champion’s Regalia is the marathon: it wants the Seasons of the Dragons achievement, which spans Seasons 2, 3, 4 and the Icebrood Saga. It is the one to keep in the background while you play everything else anyway.
What you get for it
The same stats as ascended, because ascended is already the ceiling. What changes is everything around the stats.
Free stat swapping, at any time, without the Mystic Forge and without a cost. A place in the Legendary Armory, which means the trinket is equipped on every character on your account at once.
That second part is the whole argument. A legendary trinket is not one trinket, it is one trinket per character forever, and it stops being a decision the moment you have three characters you rotate between.
Weapons look better and cost far more. If what you want is to stop maintaining gear, trinkets get you there first.
Questions people ask
How many legendary trinkets are there?
Nine: Aurora, Coalescence, Vision, Transcendence, Conflux, Prismatic Champion's Regalia, Endless Summer, Stella Radians and Strife Unending.
Which legendary trinket should I make first?
Aurora, from Living World Season 3. It needs open-world collections only, with no raids, no PvP and no WvW.
Do I need raids for a legendary trinket?
Only for Coalescence, which comes from Path of Fire raids. Every other trinket has a route through open world, PvP or WvW.
What does a legendary trinket give me?
The same stats as ascended, plus free stat swapping at any time and a place in the Legendary Armory, so one trinket is equipped on every character at once.
