Infusions: agony resistance and the auras that cost thousands

The word infusion covers two things that have nothing to do with each other, and confusing them is the usual beginner mistake. One is a stat: agony resistance, the tax that lets you survive high fractals. The other is fashion: a glowing aura on your character that does nothing and costs a fortune. Same slot, same interface, completely different worlds.

Agony resistance: the practical half

Infusions are the primary source of agony resistance, and agony resistance is the one number that matters above fractal scale 20. Below that you need none. At level 100 you want 150.

These infusions slot into ascended and legendary gear (never amulets), and a full set of eighteen +9 infusions gets you to the cap. This is the boring, necessary kind: you buy them, you slot them, you forget about them. The +16 to +22 Agony Infusion line in the table below is this family, and the price climbs steeply at the top because the highest tiers are crafted, not dropped.

Cosmetic auras: the expensive half

The other family carries no agony resistance and no stats. What it carries is a visual effect, a glow or a swarm or a shimmer, layered onto your character. These are among the most expensive cosmetics in the game, and they never lose value, because the supply is a trickle and the demand never stops.

Chak Infusion, Queen Bee Infusion, the festival ones like Festive Confetti: these drop at fractions of a percent from specific content, and the market prices them in the thousands of gold. There is no stat to justify it. You are paying for the way your character looks standing in a city, and that is the whole point of the purchase.

Where they come from

• Agony infusions: fractal vendors and the Mystic Forge, crafted up the tiers.
• Cosmetic auras: rare drops from raids, fractals (Chak from the Nightmare fractal), festivals (the Confetti line), and the occasional gem-store release.
• A few are account-bound and never touch the Trading Post, which is why some auras you see on other players have no price at all.

Slotting and moving them

Infusions go into infusion slots, which sit on all ascended and legendary equipment except amulets, plus a few exotic items. Legendary gear is the comfortable home for an expensive aura, because you never replace it and never risk losing the infusion to a gear swap.

To move one, use an Infusion Extraction Device: it pulls the infusion and leaves the gear alone. An Upgrade Extractor does the same but also strips any rune or sigil, so it is the wrong tool if you only want the infusion. Both come from the gem store.

What the expensive ones cost

This is the part a wiki cannot give you, because it moves every day. These are live Trading Post prices from our own archive: a practical high-tier agony infusion for scale, next to the cosmetic auras people chase.

The gap is the whole story. An agony infusion is a few hundred gold and does something. A Chak Infusion is a few thousand and does nothing but glow. That is not a mistake in the market: it is exactly what a decade-old fashion game values, and it is worth knowing before you save for one.
