Guilds: six at once, and why a newcomer should join the first one offered
An account can sit in six guilds, but a character represents only one at a time. What representing gets you, where Favor comes from, and what any of it is worth to someone playing alone.

Guilds in Guild Wars 2 work differently from the genre norm. This is not one guild for life; it is a set of clubs you belong to at the same time.
Six guilds at once
An account can belong to up to six guilds. That is deliberate, not a loophole.
A common arrangement: one guild for conversation in your language, one for raids, one large catch-all where somebody is always online.
But you represent only one
🔴 Here is where everybody trips: representation works per character, not per account.
You pick in the guild panel which guild this character represents. While you represent one, the bank and active upgrades of the others are closed to you.
Worse: a new character represents nobody by default. Roll a second one, open the panel and choose manually, or you will wonder where the shared bank went.
What representing gets you
- The guild bank, shared storage
- Active upgrades: experience bonuses, cheaper waypoints, vault expansions, WvW enhancements
- Guild missions, group activities of their own
- Guild Commendations from those missions, traded with vendors
- Scribe, a crafting discipline available only through a guild (crafting in general)
Favor and missions
Guild missions earn the guild Favor. That currency unlocks timed upgrades, including ones that apply to objectives in WvW.
Players themselves collect Guild Commendations from missions and spend them with guild traders.
Missions are built for groups, so they do nothing in a dead guild. That is the criterion when choosing: not size, but whether anyone is online.
The guild hall
A guild can claim its own hall, a separate space to decorate and upgrade, holding workshops, vendors and portals.
Members with the right permissions do the claiming. For a newcomer it is not urgent; first find out whether the guild suits you at all.
What it is worth if you play alone
The usual objection is “I play solo, why would I want a guild”. Three answers, all practical.
Discounts and bonuses. Cheaper waypoints and experience bonuses work while you play, without speaking to anyone.
Questions guides do not answer. “Where does this collection start”, “why will this meta not trigger for me” get answered in guild chat inside a minute.
Groups, when you want them. One day you will be ready for fractals or strikes, and hunting for strangers is far worse than posting in your own chat.
How to choose
Look at activity, not size. A four-hundred-member guild where nobody talks is worth nothing.
Do not fear joining the wrong one. Six slots, leaving is free, and no reputation is at stake.
Say that you are new. Half of all guilds recruit precisely for that and keep people who enjoy explaining.
And check whether you are representing anyone at all. Plenty of players spend months in a guild getting nothing from it, purely because they never pressed the button.
